Donna and Philip Dorn create conflict


Philip Dorn (September 30, 1901 – May 9, 1975).

Philip Dorn, born Hein van der Niet, sometimes billed as Frits van Dongen (his screen name for German films prior to World War II), was a Dutch-American actor who had a career in Hollywood. He was best known for portraying the father in the film I Remember Mama (1948).


He co-starred with Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore in Calling Dr. Gillespie (1942). A wheelchair-bound doctor's (Barrymore) life is jeopardized by an escaped mental patient who has gone on a killing spree. Now the doctor and his new assistant (Dorn) must find a way to cure the madman before he kills again. Donna Reed plays the mental patient's girlfriend.
