William Lanteau (November 12, 1922 - November 3, 1993).
William Lanteau was an American character actor. Among his best-known roles are Charlie the mail carrier in On Golden Pond (1981) and Mayor Chester Wanamaker in the American sitcom Newhart.
Lanteau appears in five different episodes of The Donna Reed Show, playing a different character in each episode. He made guest appearances in Free Flight (Season 4, Episode 24); Jeff Stands Alone (Season 5, Episode 15); Will the Real Chicken Please Stand Up? (Season 6, Episode 21); The Big League Shock (Season 8, Episode 10); and Is There a Small Hotel (Season 8, Episode 23).
