Donna got a better review than the film

Fay Holden

Fay Holden (September 26, 1893 - June 23, 1973).

Fay Holden was a British-born, American-based actress. She appeared in 46 motion pictures between 1935 and 1958, and she is best known for her recurring role as Emily Hardy, the mother of Mickey Rooney's character in the Andy Hardy film series. She was in 15 of the 16 Hardy movies.

Donna Reed appears with her in The Courtship of Andy Hardy (1942). A New York Times review called the film "one of the less distinguished Hardy films" but singles out Donna Reed, "who plays the new girl ... for she has looks and grace and a most appealing charm. Andy should keep in touch with her; he could go far and do a lot worse."
