Donna replaces Joan Caulfield as filming begins


Alan Ladd and Donna Reed in "Beyond Glory"

August 3, 1948 -“Beyond Glory” is released (New York City Premiere).

Beyond Glory (originally known as The Long Gray Line) is about a former soldier who thinks he may have caused the death of his commanding officer in Tunisia. After visiting the officer's widow, they fall in love, and she encourages him to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point.


The film was to star Alan Ladd and Joan Caulfield but the week filming started at West Point, Caulfield was replaced by Donna Reed. World War II hero Audie Murphy made his film debut in the small role of Ladd's academy roommate, Cadet Thomas.
