March 25, 1954 - Donna Reed receives Academy Award, Best Supporting Actress.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose membership is comprised of professionals in the film industry, voted Donna Reed the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in From Here to Eternity.

The role of the prostitute Lorene was a complete change from the sweet, superficial parts she was known for and called for a wide emotional range and power. Director Fred Zinnemann was not convinced she could play the role and made her do three film tests before finally relenting.
