Frank Morgan

Frank Morgan (June 1, 1890 – September 18, 1949).

Francis Phillip Wuppermann , known professionally as Frank Morgan, was an American character actor on radio, stage, and film. He was best known for his appearances in films starting in the silent era in 1916, and then numerous sound films throughout the 1930s and 1940s. With a career spanning 35 years, mostly as a contract player at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, his most celebrated performance is playing the title role in The Wizard of Oz (1939).

Donna Reed appears with Morgan in the motion pictures The Human Comedy (1943), Thousands Cheer (1943), and Green Dolphin Street (1947). She was also to appear with him in The Stratton Story (1949) opposite Van Johnson, but Johnson was suddenly replaced by James Stewart. After the poor box office performance of It's a Wonderful Life (1946), Reed was replaced by June Allyson.
